Munster Juvenile – Even Age, Novice & Under 23 Cross-Country Championships, 23rd October 2016 Carriag na bhFear

Athletes were lucky to have yet another dry, but cold day, for the Munster Juvenile Even Age, Novice & U23 Championships on Sunday 23rd Oct in Carriag na bhFear.

In the U10 Boys, 1000m Conor O’Donoghue had a strong race securing 14th place out of 157 athletes on the day. True grit & determination was displayed by the remainder of the team who also ran well especially as Ollie Buckley (34th), Harry (67th) & Cathal (21st) Walsh were all running up an age! The U10 Boys were rewarded with 4th place team spot.

Next up was the U12 Girls 2000m Lauren Green , Caoimhe O’Donoghue, Grace Coyle and Nicole & Amy Buckley. In a pack of 143 strong athletes on a fast flat course the girls had a great run and finished strong. Nicole Buckley came in 15th and subsequently secured her spot in the Cork Team for the Nationals in November. Congratulations Nicole! Well done to the other girls Lauren Green (39th) Amy Buckley (44th) Grace Coyle (61st) & Caoimhe O’Donoghue (82nd) as they secured 7th team spot.

Ryan McCarthy (51st), Michael O’Driscoll (59th) & Joey O’Callaghan (60th) represented the Boys U12 2000m in a pack 147 athletes. Consistent strong running from these athletes. Great to see Joey O’Callaghan holding strong in middle of the pack. Onwards & upwards guys.

A team of five represented the club in the Novice Womens 4000m, Elaine O’Donoghue (14th), Debbie McCarthy (30th), Helen O’Callaghan (36th), Geraldine Walsh (41st) & Sinease O’Regan securing 5th place team spot. Super running ladies!

County B Cross-Country Championships, Carriag na bhFear, 16th Oct 2016

Great to see so many first time athletes competing at the County B Cross Country Championships in Carraig na bhFear yesterday.  Overnight downpours made for heavy running ground but that didn’t deter our 13 athletes who ploughed on!

 

There were individual medals yesterday with Michael O’Driscoll taking 3rd and Ryan McCarthy 5th in the U 11 Boys 1000m while the U13 girls, Rachel O’Brien, Ailis Murphy, Caoimhe O’Donoghue, Alannah Donohoe & Aoife Donohoe took Team Bronze in the 1500m.  

 Helen O’Callaghan placed 6th in the Intermediate Women.

Munster Schools Combined Events, CIT 5th October 2016

Well done to our Club athletes Ava Coyle, Sarah Murphy, RoseMarie Buckley, Conor Green & David McCarthy, who took part recently in the Munster Schools Event in CIT representing Kinsale Community School.

Gold for U9 Boys XCountry Uneven Age, 9th October Macroom 2016

A large number of club athletes took part in the uneven age xcountry on Sunday in Macroom.  On a unseasonally warm day with no wind conditions were tough but our athletes rose to the challenge and great running was put in all round.

The U9 Boys 750m took  1st (Ollie Buckley)& 2nd  (Cathal Walsh) along with team Gold on the day! A super result for their first season running xcountry.

U11 Girls 1500m  Huge Congrats to Amy Buckley on winning a medal on Sunday placing 5th in the U11 girls and well done her clubmate Aine Donohoe who participated in her first xcountry with the club.

It was great to see a team run in the U13 girls 2500m.  Nicole Buckley, Lauren Green, & Grace Coyle all running up an age while Alana & Aoife Donohoe made their debut xcountry run for the club.  Great running girls!

Cork County XCountry Even Age, Conna 2nd October 2016

Cross Country season kicked off under light winds and crisp Autumn sunshine in Aghern, Conna last Sunday. It was the even age athletes that took to the field this week.

. U10 (Boys) 1000m

Conor O’Dononghue, Ollie Buckley and Donal Barry represented the u10’s and ran a fantastic race! Ollie Buckley took 3rd place and Conor O’Donoghue just behind took 4th. It was Donal Barry’s first time running xcountry and was also running up an age category so big congratulations to him on holding his own and finishing middle of the pack.

The U12 girls put in a solid performance yesterday with Nicole Buckley medalling in 5th place.  Lauren Green had a great run also coming in 14th while  Caoimhe O’Donoghue  and Grace Coyle held their places in the middle of the pack of 63 athletes.

There  were 92 U 12 boys competing yesterday and both Ryan McCarthy and Joey O’ Callaghan put in strong runs coming within the top third of the pack.
